When I was presented with this task I knew I wanted to make something that would solve a problem I had. In my dorm room I have a couch which I would love to do homework on, however I don't have a table and it is an inconvenience to try and work by proving my work up on my legs. because I live in a dorm room I don't have the space to have a table in the middle of the room all of the time. This brought me to my project idea, I would design a table to constructs easily for when I need it and deconstruct and tuck under my couch when I don't need it.
9/20/18(Day 1)
Design faze, I don't want anything too crazy just simple and functional that still looks good. The original design came to me quickly a simple rectangular top and slanted legs with a shelf in-between for storage. I was able to start working on my 1/6 scale model that day as well
9/24/18
The top of the model began to take shape, the sides of the table and supports went in.
9/25/18
New table design came in place for the legs, the slanted legs were not creating the support needed. The table will now sit on two triangles that will support it and still allow it to deconstruct.
9/27/18
New legs built for model, more efficient and more stable. As well as the addition of backs to one side of the triangle to allow, for when the table is deconstructed, the triangles will fit up to create side tables or storage bins. Also the realization that the triangles can be used for storage while under the table as well.
10/3/18
Design finalized, begin construction of the full sized model. Work today started with the bases of the table.
10/4/18
One base completed, other base cut out and ready to glue. Table top pieces begin to be glued together.
10/9/18
Table top parts cut out and glueing/ construction of the table top begins.
10/11/19
Sides of table top finished gluing, a top layer added to the top of the table for extra support and a cleaner finish.
10/12/18
Angles to the second triangular base cut, and base glued together. Table top and bases put together for the first time! The final product getting closer and looking promising.
10/17/18
Sanding to polish up the final product and to level the table's bases. Experimentation with a coating to protect the top of the table.
10/19/18
Protective layer added to the top of the table, completing the project!
