The Mirror

This Idea was born to answer to a simple question: "How can our lives be changed by a lamp?". It's a great deal and the response isn't such immediate.

I started thinking wide, about nature, human beings, history of illumination. I learned a lot but i was drawing things that weren't such innovative, new. I copied a lot, start getting mad because of my harrible concepts, that were becoming very intricate and crazy. One day, just a week ago i was sitting on my chair reading a journal when sun touched my bedroom's mirror and its light reflected on it. My papers were simply flood of light. It was incredible how fast my brain create this.

Yeah it's horrible. I'm not a very good drawer. But this is my first picture about it. It's like a traditional mirror turned upside down. It's a strange beginning.

Then I taught that this had to light. So i put leds on the corners but it wasn't so effective... It would be a normal light shaped as a mirror

The interesting fact comes if you insert spot light leds on it, in the middle of it. You can turn the lamp where do you want and you can illuminate clearly single points in your room, as your desk, your cupboard, your magazine if you are sat on your sofa.

So the project is getting a form. There is a mirror which light your reading facts. This isn't enough. Here comes in helping technology. By putting some engine in the lamp you can turn it where you want, just add three of them here:

and you have a plane which can move in 360 degrees. It's fantastic, you can target what do you want! And maybe a mobile phone app will help you doing this. And in the future or maybe now you'll just speak something like "hey mirror, point my smartphone/smartwatch" and it will do it recognizing your voice! The problem is that a focusing light can't do so much light to illuminate the whole room... For this reason in my concept I added a conic mirror (yea so much fun) to get a diffused light.

With this trick you are able to get a room full lighted and you can turn on the focusing light or the spreading both or singularly. You can also point the coeling to have a weaker light or the floor for a stronger one. It's amazing to see how many uses it can fulfill.

If you add C by GE functionalities this lighting fixture will satisfy all the users. You will be able to control it sitting on the sofa with bluetooth, you can control it just with a simple app and it will be very durable. In the future maybe, when the technology will be more important, as i was saying before, you would control the lamp by talking to it, saying something like "Light my son so clearly to get it up" to the phone when you are not at home and it will do it, or "light my newspaper". Very very simple. And the amazing thing is that it's all in a simple and minimal traditional object.

This lamp is taught to pend from the ceiling but it can also be made transportable like the Castiglioni Arch just by adding the mirror on a substain like this:

For a better comprehention of the project i'll attach some CADs and drawings in materials; they are drawn without a frontal panel in the lamp to see the details.
