With some function modules, we can build certain funny objects. Here I will introduce a wooden recording box which looks like an vintage radio. Assemble the 6 wooden plates and stick other function modules together by using a glue gun. The box can record your voice when pushing the “Record” button. After that, pressing the Button module enable you to hear the content you recorded (and erase as much as you want).
Step 1: Design the 3D Wooden Box
With CAD design software, you can design a shell to packaging the other modules together. You must think about distribution of all parts. Where can I plan the recorder module and how to layout the speaker holes.
Step 2: 2D Schematic Diagram
See the 2D schematic diagram of the wooden box below (applied to laser cutting). It is very easy to transform 3D to 2D with CAD software. By setting the export parameters, the CAD software can export 2D data of .dwg/.dxf format automatically.
Step 3: Laser Cutting
This job takes only 5 minutes. Pay attention to the holes when cutting them, the power of laser cutting must be enough to clip the needless wood.
Step 4 CNC process the slots
High speed, sharp milling cutter is good for the process, because the wood is tough. There are burring over the slots after milling.
Step 5 Assembly & Test
You might know how to connect the wooden plates when you see the regular shape. Using the glue gun to make them connect stronger. Then install the other modules according to your design. Lastly, push the back plate along the two side slots: you are now ready to record!
