Boing, Prickly, Cold, Splat

This project was all about getting to know what you can or can not do with cardboard. Each group had to create objects to represent the words boing, prickly, splat and cold by building a cardboard object.

For Boing, Elliot and I, decided to make a spiral which can roll out and back. 

So as the cardboard square is held vertically the spiral rolls out until the cardboard spiral is completely stretched.  When put back into its original position, the position above, the spiral rolls back . This process can be repeated over and over again.

 The steps necessary to make this spiral are pretty easy: cut out a square or a rectangle, use a easily bendable cardboard and roll it up as tight as possible, glue the two pieces together, use a tape to keep the spiral roll in place, let is sit for 1 day, after the day, the spiral shouldn't roll out when the tape is removed. Then you can use your boing. 

For cold we decided to build a mimi-mini fridge:

For this object, you simply cut out four rectangles of equal size (our measurements: 5.5 cm x 10cm) then cut out six squares 2x the size to make the outside and 3x for the inside, (our measurements: 2x 5.5 cm x 5.5 cm  and 3x 5.1 cm x 5.1 cm) glue everything together and paint it white. You can also cut out a smaller rectangle to make the fridge have a freezer. After the paint is dried use a black sharpi to paint the doors.

For prickly, we built a cactus:

For the pot we cut out a circle, then used small strips of cardboard to build the walls, glue the strips to the side of the circle so that you create a pot, flip the pot upside down, draw the new, bigger circle on a new piece of cardboard and cut out this circle. For the actual cactus build three small coffins and put nails through the side. Paint the pot brown and the cactus  green (make sure you do not paint the nails. )

For the last object, our splat, we built a fake gun:

As you can see building this object involved many steps: first, build the skeleton of the pistol, the add flexible cardboard where needed to make the pistol 3-D. After the gun is completed paint it black ( we used spray paint to make the pistol shiny.) Addition: this pistol can shoot paper balls, since the 3-D rectangle located on the top is hollow.
