Taking a course in high school called Maker's Lab. First project of the year was to create something that had four sensory requirements. Everyone else did simple projects but my partner and I thought go big or go home. So we made a rocking chair out of only cardboard and glue.
The way we constructed it was based off trial-and-error. We thought of something tested it and if it didn't work we tried something new. We took all of our measurements and basically used them as our foundations. Knowing that if we stuck to them, only so much could go wrong. We used no instructions and originally wanted to make just a chair sans the rocking part. However, during one of our mistakes (we cut the legs too long and too lazy to fix them) we decided if we crossed the legs and put some flexible cardboard (with reinforcements of course) that we would be able to just go with it and make a rocking chair.
It worked flawlessly and it seemed pretty sturdy after construction. We painted it the colors of the Portugal and USA flags and even ran into some trouble there as well with glue. However we fixed her up and on Parents Weekend we put on our finishing touches and did the one thing everybody waited weeks to see: We sat in it. Surprisingly, it withstood the weight.
And that's how we built our first ever working cardboard rocking chair.
