In this project you will learn how to build your own two-channel music activated light. The light will flash dependent on the volume of the music. I chose to use an RGB led so you can chose multiple colours.
The circuit works using a TL431 it is a voltage reference IC and can be configured like the way I have designed the circuit to function as a variable Zenner diode. By having the feature of a variable Zenner diode means that you can adjust at what voltage the LED will turn on for.
The audio signal is inputted though a 3.5mm aux which is compatible with most devices. After the audio signal has been fed into the device the signal is amplified using a LM358 op-amp.
Bellow is a copy of the schematic and the PCB if you would like to use a PCB but you could alternatively use a piece of perf board. If you would like to get your PCB manufactured I have attached a Gerber file for you to use.
Once you have got all your components you will need you will need to solder them together if you are doing this on a piece of perfboard follow the schematic for help and if you are using a PCB use the silkscreen. You will want to solder some wire to the LEDs so you can position them where you like.
After designing the PCB I have realised there is no place to connect a 5v connection so you will need to solder wires on to a ground pin and a 5v pin.
