I had an idea for a modular synth setup - and seeing as how I've never actually used a modular synth and have no desire to spend the money to buy the modules, I thought I'd take matters into my own hands and..well, make my own. Instead of having a big heavy bulky case you carry around and screw a bunch of modules to, why not build each module into a wearable Mask that you can wear, and hook up to other masks that hang on a wall during the performance?Sounds pretty dang tight if you ask me.So I started with an old classic, the Atari Punk Console. Originally designed by Forrest Mims and later called the "Atari Punk Console", this circuit uses either two 555 ICs, or one 556 and has proven to be the best beginner circuit for audio engineering. It's not just its great sounds and easy applications that make it popular, though. A user I found on Instructables named "Janw" figured out that you can add an external Voltage Control to it by connecting the unused pins of the 556 with two more audio jacks. This project only took me a day to create, but the result was satisfactory and I can hook it to my "B8BY" Baby 8-Step Sequencer while adding my other circuit bent instruments to it to get some really great sounds. Thus, J A C K P U N K was born.
