We own an RV that we keep in the Blue Ridge Mountains year round. We spend a lot of time up there in the summer to get out of the Florida heat. Come September, I winterize the RV, check the battery water levels, SOLAR and charge controllers. From October through April the RV sits without any supervision. This is what drives me crazy. I am constantly wondering:
- How the batteries are doing
- What is the battery voltage
- How much current is being used by the RV (parasitic drain),
- How much power is the 250Watt SOLAR Panel producing (0-19A)
- Solar Radiation
- What is the water level of the batteries (weight)
- What is the temperature of the batteries
- LP Gas (weight)
- Interior Temperature & Humidity
- Outside Temperature & Humidity
- Security (3 storage doors, 2 entrance doors, 1 motion sensor)
- Save data to memory card
How will this work....
The Raspberry Pi will be the heart of this system. The Hologram Nova Cellular USB modem will be the communications. Each hour the Raspberry Pi will collect data from the sensors and store the data on a memory card. At 6PM each day through the use of the Hologram Nova Cellular module will send me a status report of all the sensors. The exception to this will be the activation of a SECURITY sensor, which will instantaneously send me a message that there is a SECURITY issue, It will also send the message to the camp ground owner to look into. The SECURITY feature will also trigger the outside RV running lights to flash on and off. I already have ideas for Phase 2 of this project. Got to love TECHNOLOGY!!!!
