Women can lose up to 20% of their bone density in the 5 to 7 years after the menopause.Bone loss increases the risks of fracture, disability and death from accidents. There are many ways to reduce this loss :
- Staying active and doing exercise
- Taking Vitamin D and Calcium rich food
- Reducing/Avoiding Drinking & Smoking
- Hormone replacement therapy
Autonomous physiotherapy station is a effortless exercising machine for bones and joints, that may help reduce bone loss for post menopause women. Options for resistance exercise which can also be implemented, where user needs to move body against motor to workout.
This machine consists of moving parts which will move different parts of the body with geared stepper motors during an exercise session. Moving arms, legs, waist, knee joints will improve blood flow into bones and muscles. This will help reduce bone loss, alleviate pain, improve mood and quality of life.
Animated Video DemonstrationThis is a concept project. I can't source all the materials to make a miniature demo for this project during this lock down but I have made an animation. Of course final design will require more work and technical assistance from professionals.
Please check out this Autonomous Physiotherapy Station project demo
How the machine will workThis is how the machine will look like this after development.
The machine represents some of the primary limb joints of human body. Each joint has certain degree of freedom which will move different parts of the body to perform bone exercise.
Moving parts will be controlled with stepper motor and gear box.
I wanted to make a small demo of the project but because of Corona lock down I can not source the parts. If this device can be developed as a product it will improve post menopause women's life.
