Use your smartphone to remotely control LEGO Power Functions motors over Bluetooth. Most LEGO fans are used to the IR remote and receiver system they provide for remote control. However, IR is limited by line of sight which is a big issue when getting outdoors. I wanted to remove that limitation by using Bluetooth while also providing more flexibility for remote control options.
There is already SBrick and BuWizz out there, but being a DIY'er I wanted to do it myself. It also beats having to pay $70USD ++ (this cost me < $40 CAD).
BTBox uses a Bluno Beetle Bluetooth-Arduino module that I can connect to using Blynk on my smartphone. I can customize the code as well as functions (i.e acceleration rate profiles). The current version has 2 ports (focus is on steering and drive motors). However, I'm already thinking about a 4 port version so I can take my BluCrawler to the next level by adding crab steering (for example).
Anyway, hit the link below for a full write-up on my blog. This is an active project and I'm changing it weekly. Full write-up is on my blog.
