After the Covid-19 breakout one of the most basic safety requirement is the deployment of hand sanitisers in frequently visited places. Due to the spread of the virus by touch, there have been several innovative designs that are either mechacinal or with the use of basic electronics that have made a regular dispenser into a foot operated one.
The main designs available online is by constructing a metal or PVC pipe frame that is spring loaded that pushes a lever on the existing dispenser cap. Not only does this require quite a bit of manufacturing work such as cutting and assembling but it is makes the contraption fairly expensive.
Secondly there are basic electrical one's that run using an Arduino and a distance sensing design. Although this saves the time of manufacturing it also has certain shortcomings, for instance it needs to be powered and the user needs to program the device (which not everyone is familiar with) and the overall cost is not for too different from the pipe or metal frames.
Thus while thinking of a new designed we aimed for two things :
1. Ease of manufacturing.
2. Low-cost with common materials.
Our design is built solely with upcycled parts commonly found in hospitals or pharmicies and costs around 20 cents. The principle of squirting the sanitiser out is overcome by using air pressure created by a Blood Pressure hand pump.
This simple and elegan design can be
