Ok so my parents bought this GE (General Electric) dryer for $700, and it immediately started falling apart. The knobs fell off, and then the switch to turn it on got pushed into the face. The whole thing is made of soft, flimsy plastic and the housing for the switches are just really thin and poorly made. So. You can find the knobs yourself on Thingiverse, there are a ton of them. But the housing wasn't on there, so I designed one and attached it to this hack report.
1. First, unscrew the 3 screws on the back of the control panel. They are at the top of the washing machine in the back. Big round ones. Then pull the control panel forward just a bit, then slide it to the right to unlock it. Then carefully remove.
2. Fix the switch housing
As I mentioned, the switch to turn the dryer on mounts to the back of the control panel. You can see above, we tried taping and gluing the thing, but it just kept falling off.
I ended up printing a housing for the switch so that it wouldn't fall back into the dryer's control panel anymore. As you can see, I just screwed it into the front. Make some holes with a drill, of course.
