My friend had some old, small soviet TVs. These were really popular in the 70's-80's in Hungary. None of them was working so I thought I can replace the inside with a Raspberry Pi and use it to show some old photos from our childhood.
I have replaced the tube with a glass and a 5" HDMI LCD display, and put inside a Raspberry Pi. Two knobs where replaced with a potentiometer connected to the RPi using an ADC. The first one changes the folder where the images come from, the other is the input parameter for the color effect. I can change the color of the images from full color to grayscale and then to sepia. This also changes the fonts and icons used on the screen from a modern to a more retro look.
The TV has a BME280 sensor and can display the inside temperature and humidity. It is also using OpenWeatherMap to display outside temperature and weather forecast icons.
Image folders are shared on the network with SMB.
