Despite having received regular monthly visits from 'Aunt Flo' for more than a decade, my Period still has a tendency to catch me off guard when it arrives. On more than one occasion, I have found myself down to my last pad or tampon mid-Period without time to go to the store and purchase more.
To rectify this problem, I would like to build a Smart Pad & Tampon Dispenser that tracks its owner's monthly inventory and is able to order more supplies as they run low. Through monitoring supply usage, the Smart Pad & Tampon Dispenser can track patterns in it's owner's menstrual cycle. Here are a few features I plan to include in the project:
-Through monitoring supply usage, the Dispenser can track supply usage to understand how many pads and tampons the owner uses on average during each day of their period.
-As the dispenser senses supplies are being used, it can understand when it's owner's monthly cycle is happening and over time be able to predict when the next cycle will occur.
-Using Amazon DRS services, the dispenser can order supplies as they get low to ensure that it is fully stocked before its owner's next period.
-Through IoT analytics, the owner can view data on supply usage to help them gain an understanding of which days of their periods are the heaviest and lightest. A text and/or email notification system could potentially be put in place to notify the owner what to expect for the day.
The dispenser will be made out of laser cut wood and function very similarly to a napkin dispenser. A plates attached to springs will move forward as supplies are removed. At the moment, I am still researching ways to track the position of these plates. I am considering using hall effect sensors or switches of some sort to measure these positions.
