Bluey is a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) development board with Temperature, Humidity, Ambient Light and Accelerometer sensors. Bluey uses the Nordic nRF52832 BLE SoC (System on a Chip) which has an ARM Cortex-M4F CPU and a 2.4 GHz radio that supports BLE and other proprietary wireless protocols. Since it has BLE and inbuilt sensors gave an idea of doing a wearable project.
Building a wearable with arduino and hr-04 is bulky. And some high range boards do not have an inbuilt sensor and are also costly. Bluey is affordable, also with inbuilt sensors and main part to consider is that it has a button cell. So it is best suited for a wearable.
I wanted to make a wearable pedometer with it. It works on the principle that while walking the hands moves in the pattern of a pendulum moving to and fro for each steps taken. Hence by wearing the Bluey-Walkie in the wrist we can able to find the extremes of the hand swing and can count it as a step.
These step counts are then transmitted to an android app made using MIT APP INVENTOR 2. It supports BLE with a BLE EXTENSION. By making use of this extension we can able to build a wearable which consumes less power in both the phone and battery.
This project can be weared in the wrist or can be kept in pant pockets or put inside the shoes to determine the steps taken.
