SwiftSwim is an app that transform your mobile device into a wearable, capable of reading the movement sensors from your mobile device and automatically identify the swimming style, count the number of pools and number of stroke and transform all these into easy to understand analytics report.
Nowadays, wearable is a growing industry, but is very expensive and/or not accurate enough in order to produce quantifiable and reliable results.
SwiftSwim is a free application with a very high and consistent accuracy that helps swimmers from all ages and levels through accurate tracking of their workout.
In an experiment performed throughout 7 days of swimming with 16Km swam, 639 pools and 7067 one-arm strokes, SwiftSwim had a 92% accuracy detecting a swimming style with a 3% error on Lap counting and 6% error on Stroke counting. On the other hand, Garmin had only a 50% accuracy detecting the swimming style with a 13% error on Lap counting and 37% error on Stroke counting. http://swiftswim.com/experiments.html
Now, we want to be even more accurate and unique adding additional sensors as wearables connected to the mobile application. The first in line is a heart rate monitor, which will allow us to create a statistical representation of calorie consumption across each swim and each stroke style. Other sensors we would like to add in the future are more gyros and accelerometers strategically located on arms and legs to increase our overall performance to a 100%.
All these sensors will enable us not only to understand the swimmers movements but to crate automated recommendation algorithms that will show each swimmer where their exercise can be improved and how.
