The motivation behind the ring design is to display a nickname of mine by playing and manipulating with text and extruding it out. The result is Bran Ring.
Though the design in and of itself is rather simple, the implementation turned out to be more challenging than I had initially thought. One of the main challenges I encountered was the limitation of the 3D printer. As my initial design had a more subtle effect on the letters, this was something that was not translated onto the first iteration of the product. Therefore, I had to extrude the letters a bit more to get them to appear on the final product. Another challenge was definitely using CAD software. As it was my first encounter with 3D modeling, I faced some of the challenges that I thought would have been easy (i.e. wrapping text around a curved surface). I did this by extruding the text through a cylinder, then deleting any artifacts of the structure besides what I wanted exposed.
All in all, a rather fun project, and I would definitely use the 3D printer to perhaps create a version with less damage from support material.
