For many years my small company have been applying industrial microprocessors. Besides that, we were looking for new solutions that meet the increasing demands of users, and one of the requirements was that solutions should not be expensive. We are currently engaged in the field of waste management.
UDOO PCB is the right response to many requests, it is both interactive application system, database server and process controller that we need to process RFID readers, and manage vehicle barriers at the entry of waste collection stations. As there are several categories of stations for waste collection, the latest project will be used at the smallest units where there is only one employee who must collect data on all types of waste, so and to identify all the people who bring waste and are registered in internal database. Identification is now realized manually, searching through the database according to filter criteria entered by virtual keyboard.
The project was realized in a relatively short interval, and is already installed in eight locations (in test mode). Locations are outside built-up areas, there is a small office in a 20-foot container, and no air-conditioning system – which, in some cases results the unfavorable temperature conditions (up to 40°c during the summer). The system must be robust, portable and very easy to handle to any low-educated employee. All manipulations must be available through the “touch screen” (even the system shutdown).
There is a POS thermal printer connected throught the wireless connection. As touch screen we chose 10.1” sized, robust ‘LILLIPUT’ monitor. There is also battery pack added to keep RTC alive. At the first revision of UDOO board the RTC was not working properly, but now, RTC module works correctly. Beside there is SATA SSD disk. 60Gb.
At the software level, there is “Firebird” database server installed, containing (replicated, partial) extract of a utility company database, with all users that can be identified when submitting the waste. The application is developed using the “CODE BLOCK C++” and wxWidgets. As db interface is used the high quality and stable IBPP-library.
