While testing out the Holographic Display LED fan, we thought it would be fun to try and use it to promote the Pulse Train Hat http://www.pthat.com.
3D Holographic Air Fan Display is a cost-effective solution to show a holographic effect floating free in the air. The impact of this display is the simplicity, brightness and clear image that at a long distance everyone can see, very easy to install, video content requires only basic development (Manufacturers words, not mine).
The effect is created by a bar with high tech led light that spin a high speed,
The software can take a Video, GIF or static pictures and create your movie, which you then copy to a SD card.
Got to be honest here, the software is awful. We spent days trying to get a decent display out of it. It crashes a lot and also does not seem to be that intelligent when it comes down to stripping a video down into still frames and then creating it's own format to load onto the SD card.
Part 1When loading in a video, It tends to grab a frame once every 0.1 of a second, but then somehow grabs a previous frame after that one, which creates back jitter in the animations. We even reduced our original animation video down to 10 frames a second to see if that would improve things. Sorry to say it did not.
Seems okay with a few seconds of animation, but when trying to do 1 minute 45 seconds of animation that we have in our video, it played up a lot.
We even split the movie down into 10 individual short movies, but every time we got to converting number 9 or 10, the software kept crashing. We tried different video formats, different resolutions and even tried running the software on Windows XP, just in case it was Windows 10 being the issue.
It even got to the point that we started to reverse engineer the binary files it created and to see if we could write our own routines to create the files ourselves.
Our final solution was we created our Video and then converted to a GIF animation. Used the import Gif option in software and this seemed to keep the frames in the correct order.
Part 2Here is example video below.
ExampleIt does actually look better to the eye, rather than on film as the camera seems to pick up the strobe of the animation a little.
We were asked if we could crop previous video published to give closer view. So here it is.
And here is the animation video that Korrie knocked up quickly to use for our test.
Here is another video of the default example video that comes with the unit, testing in the office/workshop when first got it.
