After going through much trial and error, we have officially decided which applications that we will use to create our video. We explored multiple applications that would enable us to record a video playing on our screen, and we have decided to use QuickTime Player. We downloaded various applications from the app store, which included “Iris: screen recorder” and “Screen Recorder Studio” but we were unimpressed with their performance. Finding a free application that could record our laptop screens while we played videos was extremely important and finally, we discovered QuickTime Player, which was already installed on our laptops. QuickTime Player was free and has proved to be a reliable application that is easy to use. Furthermore, we have strayed away from Archive.org and would like to focus more on YouTube videos for our project. We thought that YouTube provided better search results than Archive.org. YouTube matched our searches with insightful videos, whereas Archive.org sometimes provided audio or articles instead of videos. YouTube videos were generally clearer than Archive.org videos as well. Additionally, we are more familiar with YouTube than Archive.org.
After working in class on our projects, we spoke with Dr. Taylor about the application that we should use to put together our videos. Dr. Taylor suggested rethinking our initial application choice, iMovie, for editing our movie and inserting an audio clip, instead of using an Adobe application. We agreed with his suggestion and have decided to use iMovie, which is conveniently already on our laptops. Furthermore, we struggled with deciding on a plan for our audio portion of the video project. Initially, we were going to record our own voices highlighting theories covered in our course material, but now we have chosen to research an author of an article assigned in our coursework and pick an audio of them speaking. We want to find a long, important quote that would cover the span of the entire video, which we have decided should be about three to four minutes.
