I've been into photography and videography for a decent while, and technology since I was little, so I've had plans to merge the two for some time now. Ever since I first saw them, I've been infatuated with the technology behind gimbals and stabilisers, making several makeshift ones with gyro sensors and a couple servos.
The smoothness of brushless motor gimbals has certainly caught my attention, but I feel more can be done with the level of control available to the user. I want more than pan and tilt. I want an autonomous shot-making machine, one that can enhance what already is a great technology.
I see gimbals and think they're a wonderful thing, until you need to zoom for a shot, and then rebalance your camera, and forget about mid-shot zoom and focus adjustments.
There certainly are modules that can give you control over zoom or focus, but those by themselves can range up to $600, and would never fit in a gimbal setup. I'd like to fix that, and throw in some additional flair of automation while I'm at it~
