These days, video surveillance systems seem to be everywhere. It allows individuals, enterprises, institutions, and businesses to monitor, record, and account for what occurs on their premises even when they are not around.
The presented security system is one of the possible solutions to monitor a space. The system can be accessed and controlled only by the owner via a website, which means that it is accessible by laptop/phone. Therefore, the system allows you to connect to it only through a user account when the IP of the Raspberry PI is known and the device is running.
This system uses a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and an USB webcam. The system sends a notification when it detects motion.
The webcam is connected to Raspberry PI. Using a browser we will connect to the web server running on Raspberry PI. The system allows you to connect to it only through a user account when the IP of the Raspberry PI is known and the device is running.
From the interface, the logged on user is able to see the following:
- Camera live feed
- A button which allows you to activate or deactivate the alarm
- A text field where the user can enter an email address to receive notifications
When the system detects motion it sends a notification via email and displays a message on the web page.
- Create a new email address or use an already existent one to send warning emails from.
- Open PuTTY and connect to the Raspberry Pi
- Install the required Python modules
pip install -r requirements.txt
- Connect the camera to the Raspberry Pi
- Start the server
bash run.sh
- Go to http://raspberrypi:5010/
