Driver circuits are used to control the other components or circuits. MOSFET / IGBT drivers are used to drive the Gate of high power MOSFETs and IGBTs. MOSFET/ IGBT is a voltage controlled device that is used for switching or amplification of the electrical signals.
IR2118 is a high voltage, high speed MOSFET/ IGBT driver. Proprietary HVIC and latch immune CMOS enables ruggedized monolithic construction. Input to IC is compatible with standard CMOS output. The floating channel can be used to drive N channel MOSFET or IGBT in high or low side configuration.

Working Principle
IR2118 consists of a Schmitt trigger, pulse generator, under voltage detector, pulse filter and RS latch. Input signal is applied at pin 2 (/IN) of the IC, which passes through the Schmitt trigger, this signal drives the pulse generator. Pulse generator drives the built in MOSFETs to produce the input signals for the SR latch. Depending upon the response of the latch high side or low side MOSFETs are operated. Output of the IC is CMOS compatible which is used to drive the externally connected high power devices like MOSFETs and IGBTs. Since it is a single channel device only one device can be operated with IR2118
