There is nothing better than real hardware.
Connect your old Commodore 64 Joystick to your computer USB port in 5 minutes and play your favorite Commodore 64 ROMs like in the 80's.

Once you have everything hooked up download a Commodore 64 emulator like VICE. Map the joystick as follows: UP (w), DOWN (s), LEFT (a), RIGHT (d) and BUTTON (q) and you'll be good to go.
Your Arduino board now will act as a keyboard. Each joystick movement will trigger a keystroke.
