This project started from trying to find what would genuinely be useful in the fight against Covid-19. It's too easy to start from "what can I build?" instead of "what do you need?" We all want to be helpful but we need to help where it's needed, not just where we think we can.
My wife is a GP (or a family doctor for those in the US) and her job right now is see those patients who are experiencing symptoms that could potentially be Covid-19 and assess whether they need treatment or hospitalization. Some of these patients can be seen via video and where possible this is of course being done. Others have to been seen in person and this of course potentially exposes others (including my wife and then my family) to someone who is likely to be suffering from Covid-19.
What I asked was why these people had to be seen in person and if anything could be done without bringing them to a doctor's surgery.
"I need to monitor their stats" she said. "People can appear to be breathing normally even when they're not getting enough oxygen. I can't check their blood oxygen concentration or even their temperature remotely. I also need to see if things are getting better or worse."
