Not everyone has a space they can grow their own food. If we want to change this, people need to be able to take care of their 'garden' no matter where they can put it.
I am going to build a micro greenhouse, a small (1M x 1M) enclosed planter to start with. The goal is to make it portable and self sufficient so it can be used on an apartment building roof, in a shared green space or tucked into a nearby forest where it won't be bothered. I know there are greenhouse automation solutions but I want it be as hands off as possible. Sort of like Nest, but for your greenhouse. Just tell it what plants you have and let it keep the environment right.
For this to be useful without daily maintenance it needs to allow sunlight in, to open and close it's vents automatically in response to temperature, humidity, and emergencies such as external weather. I will use the sensor kit to monitor the internal environment and report the status home. I will also need to adjust vents or open the lid. This will require some training and the use of AI to predict how sunshine, external weather, and how open the lid is to predict how internal temperature and humidity will change to keep plants in their ideal range.
As extreme weather events become more common I think having your plants able to shut themselves in for safety is increasingly important.
The camera will also let you see how your plants are doing and alert you to damage to the unit
Stretch goals will be to include automatic watering from a reservoir and to make it solar powered.
