I especially like watches and this kit from the house of Adafruit (ID: 204): it has an excellent documentation, a large display and the time is displayed after a game from the 80s "Pong" borrowed.
The ATmega328 chip is programmed from scratch ready for use and there are other animations available for download on the net.
The documentation is excellent and leads the soldering beginner to the finish after about 2 hours. However, attention when assembling the housing: it is in total easily fragile - this is due to the materials and the narrow webs, in which one pockets the fronts and the side panels.
With super glue you get the case with a breakage again fixed.
The only interpretation scope within the documentation remains with the red LED: the length of the LED legs should only be so far that with bent LED in the 90 degree angle whose lower end still touches the case: "-|". Only then can the corresponding Sidewall to be pushed together on the front.
Check the photo out: better you bring the LED body closer to the side of the green PCB. In my experience, the LED legs are still too long.
I also liked the cutscenes with the tests: you can change your course during the completion, before it's too late.
You do not have to worry about the power supply either: with the help of a diode (Attention: polarized!) and a 7805 on IC2 you can easily use power supplies up to 17V.
Although the product is no longer listed in the sale at Adafruit, but I still found a kit with me and set it in the German ebay store with an auction. Being fast is worth it!

The ball remains in play until the next minute:
Do not forget to remove the protective foil from the display before assembling the case ;-)
