He is smart but can't focus! When you’re a parent, you want to make sure that your son or daughter is putting their all into studies. But sometimes, their capabilities aren’t showcased in their grades. If you want to help improve their focus, this desk lamp does not only provide a bright environment, but also uses TinyML to improve concentration.
The main goal when designing the electronics was to have a top quality white light for the workplace with different colour temperatures from 3000K to 6000K. For that purpose, 12VDC analog COB LED strips are superb, as the provide a much more powerful light than digital LED strips. In addition, we also use a digital pin to drive an additional addressable RGB LED strip.

- As stated before, USB-C PD enables to negotiate supply voltage with the host. Available voltages are 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V and 20V.
- The buck converter has 2A / 5V overcurrent protection
- Below you can see the pinout for adding external sensors, while IO0 is specially purposed for a capacitive touch sensor to control the lamp lighting.
🧑🏻💻 Desk lamp 3D model

The lamp is driven by newest open source WLED project https://kno.wled.ge/ firmware v0.15 and APP (available both for Android and IOS).
The aim of this project is not only to build a desk lamp that works well, but to improve users comfort and productivity. With that purpose, we need to gather data with sensors embedded in the desk lamp. Here you can find a description of the sensors:
- Environmental datawith BME690 (temperature, humidity and pressure)
- Air Qualitywith BME690 (bVOC and CO2 equivalents)
- Occupancy with HLK-LD2410B radar sensor.
- Microphonefor sound anomally detection ICS-40720.
Occupancy is an important issue in Building Management Systems because based on sensory data you can automatically control lights or temperature or ventilation systems and you can save energy and optimize usage by providing availability of rooms in real-time without the hassle of having each room checked by a person. From here you acquire new training data, design impulses and train models.
