The Air Quality Wing (Previously Particle Squared), designed by yours truly, is an all-in-one air quality sensor for Particle and Feather based development boards. It brings together a trio of sensors to give you as many data points as possible.
This project though, is about the custom built case for this project and potentially yours!
MotivationA few cool folks in the community designed their own cases for the Air Quality Wing.
Despite this, I was hearing from a few folks that they'd like to see an official case. While I consider myself useful in Fusion 360, I didn't quite have the ability to design such a thing, yet...
Fortunately, there are many resources scattered throughout the internet. I learned many of the techniques outline in this YouTube video:
If you want to roll your own, I highly recommend it!
For the lazy though, I'll include the files and more information about the case here.
FeaturesThoughout the process I wanted keep the design as simple as possible. At the same time, would have a compliment of different features. Usually simple and features don't always co-exist. So I'll let you be the judge here.
Here are some of the most important things I built into the design:
- USB port cutout to run off USB power
- Ventilation in strategic locations including custom sized holes for the HPMA115S0
- Everything is mounted safely using M2.5x6 (example: M2.5 screws) plastic screws. This includes PCB standoffs and the 2x screws holding in the bottom battery case.
- Speaking of battery case, yes there is a separate optional battery compartment! Here are the specs for the max battery size:Width: ~81 mmLength: ~41.9 mmHeight: ~10.35 mm (includes battery expansion wiggle room)
- The design is meant to work with Honeywell's HPMA115S0 and almost any FeatherWing. In addition to this, you can also connect a SMA connector for an external antenna.
- If you're using a Particle board, the top vent holes also align with your RGB LED. That way you can know what's going on with your design without having to open it up!
Don't care much about features and want to print the dang thing? I've uploaded the v53 files right here to Hackster.
Thanks to everyone that made this possible. It's been a fun ride working on this project. For more information on the case and the Air Quality Wing check out the official documentation.

- Re-designed top snap
- Increased length to give more room for cables.
- Tweaked height for HPMA sensor (so it doesn’t rattle around)
- Antenna break outs are real!
- USB fit improvements
