For around $25, you can purchase a WEL3005 30W constant current electronic load from sites like eBay, AliExpress or Banggood. They come as a pre-built module.
One of the problems that existed with the first generation of this module was you needed to remove the fan to connect wires to the terminal block. The latest version addresses this issue.
- Module Supply Voltage: 6V-30V
- Measuring Voltage: 0-30V
- Discharge Current: 0A-5A Continuously Adjustable
- Working Temperature: -10~+75 Degrees
- Resolution: Voltage 0.01v, Current 0.001
- Fan: 4010 Double Roller Fan, Speed 8000

The module works really well and because of its small size, I am using it a lot more than the 60W Constant Current Load that I had built previously. So I have designed a small case which was made on my 3D printer.
The STL files are included. Either take these to a 3D print shop or if you have your own printer, run them through your slicing software. I used a 0.2mm layer height and they need orientating in your slicing software.
The lugs that hold the shells together are a bit fragile. I glued on washers before I created a thread with a 3mm tap.
Bolt the banana terminals onto the front panel and add the WEL3005 module. The wires that go to the current terminals (B+ and B-) need to be rated at 10 Amps or more. If you have a old power cable, strip off the black outer insulation layer and you will find the wires inside are usually rated at 10A. The wires that go to the voltage terminals (b+ and b-) can use standard hook up wire as these don't carry much current at all.
On the back panel add the DC panel socket and connect the power supply wires that came with the module. The long pin is negative (black wire) and the shorter pin is positive (red wire).
Once wired, slide the back panel over the fan and place the assembly into the bottom clam shell. Screw on the top clam shell using four 6mm M3 screws.
The unit operates as advertised and is a great tool for the toolbox. It's great for testing batteries and because of its compact size, doesn't take up too much space.
