Project Idea: When I first got my car back home in California, I was very disappointed with the quality of the factory speakers. I decided to replace everything on my own including the stereo. The whole car project initially sparked my interest and I have decided I want to use my time in makers lab to create a more portable yet powerful speaker.
Day 1: I finally received all my parts in the mail. I took a quick inventory to make sure everything was there. I will use my remaining time to familiarize myself with the different components.
Day 2: unfortunately COVID-19 has put my project on hold since all my materials are at school and I cannot be on campus. My items will be shipped to my house and in the meantime I am spending my time stud what needs to be done in order to assemble my project when the time comes.
Thursday, April 2nd: my parents have confirmed that my project pieces have arrived at my house and I travel home tomorrow. I am excited to start construction.
Day 3: I began by putting all the wire components together to test the speakers and figure out how to solder everything together. The speakers worked and I made sure to not use much solder.
Day 4: today I took apart the wire components and purchased the wood I wanted to use for the housing box. I made the first cut of the from piece.
Day 5: After cutting all my pieces I Put the pieces together by pre-drilling the holes and using medium sized screws I found in my garage. Once it was all put together I began organizing how electrical components would fit in the box.
Day 6: part of my design plan was to have the backside of the speaker open up so I Could fix anything that internally Down the road. Unfortunately I messed up when pre-drilling the holes for the hinge I had in mind. Also my hung was a little shorter than expected. Fortunately I was able to make it work and the back can swing open when a screw is removed.
Day 7: Today I put a piece of foam on the back board of the box to improve sound quality. At this point the speaker is fully functional and complete. In the next few days I will find items to add on. I’m thinking it needs a handle and maybe some kind of feet.
