RollRight is an AI-powered hardware solution designed to enhance accessibility and independence for wheelchair users. By automatically opening doors when a wheelchair user approaches, it makes navigation easier, safer, and more hygienic.🌟

Inspiration Behind RollRight 💡

The concept of RollRight grew from the realization of how manual door-opening mechanisms pose significant challenges for wheelchair users. These challenges range from physical accessibility issues to safety concerns and potentially unhygienic conditions from touching shared surfaces like most door openers.

How RollRight Works 🎯

The mechanics of RollRight involve high-resolution web camera that streams the input to the machine learning model that work together to detect the presence of a wheelchair. When a wheelchair is detected, the system triggers an actuator that opens the door.

The core of our system, the AI model, is trained to recognize wheelchairs from the camera feed. We deploy this model on a Google Coral AI.

RollRight has been augmented to also support body pose recognition to interpret American Sign Language (ASL) signs. This feature makes doors accessible not just for wheelchair users, but also for those who communicate via ASL.

For this feature, we'd train our AI model to recognize specific ASL signs related to door operations such as "open" and "close". When a person stands in front of the door and makes the ASL sign for "open", the camera detects this action, the AI interprets the sign, and the door actuator is triggered to open the door. Similarly, the sign for "close" would trigger the door to close.

This enhancement aligns perfectly with our mission to foster inclusivity and accessibility. By recognizing body poses and interpreting ASL, we're making strides in ensuring that our doors are "open" to everyone.

To ensure privacy and data security, our system only processes images locally without storing them. Additionally, the user interface designed for the system allows for easy monitoring and adjustments.🔒🖥️
