This project started out as a joke amongst me and my colleagues, but has turned into a useful app. When you share a bathroom amongst several people it can be aggravating when you go to the bathroom and someone else is in there.

We would like to release a version of this app to the public so they can easily deploy it. Adding an optional IoT device to this project would make it much better. The ESP8266 is the perfect chip for this project.

The project is hosted with Google's Firebase. The free tier would allow up to 100 users, which is hopefully more than the number of people using your bathroom.

This project is currently a work-in-progress. We have an Arduino Uno, but we are still building out the rest of the design.
