A cute little badge with running lights and blinking eyes. Uses a 3V CR2032 coin cell to power the LEDs.
The 5 LEDs on the spaceship are Charlieplexed using 3 pins of the microcontroller. A touch switch under the solder resist at the bottom of the board turns the LEDs on and off.
A number of different sequences are programmed in the firmware and are cycled through at random.
The kit uses through-hole components but the construction is a little unusual - call it pseudo SMD. So it's easier to solder than a full surface-mount design but a little harder than a regular through-hole kit. This construction technique allows for the outward-facing side of the board to be free of solder joints and look neater.
There's a mounting hole for a pin and clip so the badge can be worn on clothing,.
