The vibrating motor that comes with the MetaWear Kit allows anyone to add haptic feedback to their product.
This coin vibrating motor, also known as a shaftless or pancake vibrator motor, is 10mm in diameter (and 2.7mm thick) and weights 0.9 grams.
Due to their small size and enclosed vibration mechanism, coin vibrating motors are a popular choice for many different applications.
Pancake motors are compact and convenient to use. They integrate into many designs, because they have no external moving parts, and can be affixed in place with the adhesive sticker on the back.
The required voltage for the MetaWear motor is 3V (60mA) and the motor will shake with vigor once it is powered.
You can directly solder the vibrating motor positive lead (red) to pin 11 on the board. The ground pin (black or blue) is connected to pin 10, the high current haptic driver on the board which will be used to turn on the motor.
If you want to reduce the current draw and motor strength you can use a series resistor (100 to 1000 ohms).
The iOS and Android Sample App provides a great example of how to turn the motor on for a few milliseconds.
