The Portlet project originated when attempting to make my own yogurt. I realized so much could be accomplished in the kitchen if I had a way of controlling the outlet and monitor temperatur. Most of the simple kitchen devices I had could suddenly have the intelligence and control that I actually wanted. There was nothing on the market, so in the Maker Spirit I made my own!
It become apparent pretty quickly that there were a lot of devices it would work well with even outside of the kitchen.
So I started working to build it into an even more sophisticated project and raise some funds with Kickstarter. But I stink at marketing and it never reached enough people to become anything.
It started as an Arduino project, but to attempt to create a true IoT device I also attempted using a Spark Photon as a brain:
And now there is a version using the very impressive LinkIt! (which is what this whole project is about!)
Open SourceAs you can see from the dates, this project started a while ago. I did not like the Portlet idea just sitting on the shelf; with a name that cute it must go bigger. So eventually I decided to publish all the design files in the hopes others can benefit from it:
Here is web page giving all relevant files to the Portlet project
Hopefully the Hackster community can take Portlet and run with it!
