COVID-19 needs no more introduction, we all know how it affected economy deeply, causing millions to lose jobs, struggling to make ends meet, since not everyone are able to work from home. Hoarding mentality left many deprived from basic necessities, "Every man for himself", "only the strongest survives" which resonate with our current capitalistic system. Plus WHO has warned that COVID may never go away, which means we will never return to Business as usual, since there might be a wake of 2nd 3rd 4th wave of COVID epidemic.
The concept of Modular Economy is born, so that society member can support each other. Those who can work from home, to support informal sectors who cant earn while staying home during pandemic. In turn, when remote workers fell sick, informal sectors will support them when they go back in business. Thus Modular Economy aim sufficiency of humanity most basic needs, while embracing less privileged (from physically handicapped to aging generation) since "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link".
In Modular Economy, each city module will be self sustaining with guarantees : no poverty, no violence, no waste. There would be no need to hoard, since resources will prioritize the basic need for every citizen within the module. Once COVID epidemic starts to rise within a module, it would be easily contained, while other module still operate as usual. Income distribution from a stable module will help the epidemic module to flatten out the curve and stop it quickly before wide spread, so that both informal sector & remote workers can work hand in hand.

DisclaimerAt the moment, Modular Economy is an abstract concept, with many functions (ie: TNC legalities, setup installation, and online security) still under development. To make this initiative legal, participating owner would still need to apply for virtual currency licence of their respective national bank. Below is a self recording explanatory video of how Modular Economy concept works. Its recorded in Indonesian language. Please turn on cc and set to English, and fast forward to 1:27 for how the concept will work.
Solution #1: Distributed Income.Modular Economy is a patent pending concept, where every individual benefits from general economy, earning a portion of commission when a financial transaction is performed within the module they occupy. This is achieved by having a small financial server installed on module (run by a precompiled Raspberry PI) that captures all of financial transaction (selling / buying performed via Apps published on Google Playstore). As a general rule, it will collect 10% of the sum of daily transaction and store into a virtual escrow account, which will be distributed equally among every module citizen's account each midnight.
This project will only cover setting up Raspberry Financial Server installation (I am using raspberry pi type A as an example), and connecting to 8 digit 7 Segment Led to indicate the amount of distributed income each individual will earn for transparency. Further implementation, such as monthly voting of the most non-contributing member, building vertical farming, modular apartments, food courts & remote office location, will have to be discussed & implemented offline.
Solution #2: Splash Income. One of the other Business Model that Modular Economy have is by recruiting local talents, and remotely employ them to an economically more developed countries. Apart from salary commission, everyone will also benefit from currency exchange discrepancy to further fund module infrastructure building, and replicate module success to other geographical location. We also sell products & services created intra-module, and the profit will again be distributed across agents & citizen in fair proportion. (this is beyond the scope of this competition)
To collaborate with Modular Economy movements, and implement to your location, please follow the instruction written below
-----------------------------------------------
Step One: Parts Sourcing.Once a land owner is interested to collaborate and develop their plot of land into a closed community, ME will supply necessary equipment as is detailed within this project (if its located nearby existing module), or owner can purchase their own device and replicate by following instructions described within this contest.
Step Two: Setting Up.NOTE: If you purchase ME pre-compiled Raspbian OS, skip to Installation section, because registration has been performed offline.
1. Open https://modular-economy.id/modules/register/ simply fill in information where the new module actual location will be set up, and accept the terms & conditions. After completing payments (if you buy any extra features) You will be given an activation code, example below:
2. Download precompiled Raspbian OS Lite (headless version) for Modular Economy here, and follow this instruction to flash into a memory card. Plug in all required peripherals (Power, HDMI display, UTP for internet). Finally insert memory card into Raspberry Pi. Continue instruction on Installation Section below
INSTALLATION
:
1. Wire Raspberry GPIO pin into 8 digit 7 Segment module. (wiring details on Schematic section) Plug in all peripherals & turn on Raspberry Pi, login using username : pi, standard password: raspberry. (if you haven't already)
2. 7 Segment module will lit up to show "Starting".
3. Simply type "bash setup.sh" into the command prompt, and enter activation code from step 2.1, until you see Congratulation message on screen. (This server will only be able to be accessed internal module - not open to the web)
4. Each new citizen within the module need to be registered on the web interface. They also need to install ME apps from google play (for those having smartphone)
or wear a QR RFID bracelet when they dont.
5. From here on, each purchases made, will get 10% deducted into an escrow account kept at Raspi Server. It will then be distributed to each citizen account at midnight local time. No physical currency (paper money / coin) is allowed within module to avoid corruption / fake money.
Step Three: Application & Implementation. This step is the most crucial, and the biggest part for the success of Modular Economy. Unfortunately this part goes beyond the ability & scope of this project to detail, since this include setting up regulation such as monthly voting for the least contributing member. Please contact Hendri +62-856-200-7080, or email hendri.chilly@gmail.com to arrange meeting or interview to establish & discuss further details regarding Modular Economy Collaboration.
Summary: Investor PitchWe are currently looking to crowdfund and establish the first prototype of how Modular Economy system really works like, on a half acre plot of land consisting of a few family and remote workers. Since ME is a big project, we are looking for more traction, endorsement, publication & support from UNDP, funding from investors, and people with the same vision to collaborate and make this concept a reality.
