Laundry Basket Scanner

It was hard to choose what I wanted to build as my first Walabot application. I initially thought that it would be cool to use it to report on the status of car parking spaces, but in the end I decided it would be better suited to a somewhat drier, indoor application. This is where the laundry basket scanner comes in.

Our home is full of smart home tech but the laundry basket is decidedly dumb. It sits there and fills up...and up...and up. You could say that it is unloved and overlooked despite clothing being pretty essential most days. So let's give it the love it deserves, hook it up to Alexa and get some real-time reporting going.

You invoke Alexa with something like...

"Alexa, what is my laundry basket like?"

...and she encourages you to get on with a quick load:

"Thanks for asking. Your laundry basket has about one load of light clothing and two loads of dark clothing. It is 6.30pm so I suggest you put on a dark load now so it is ready before bedtime."
