Information sharing and community are central to the maker experience, as we navigate complex technical challenges with limited means. Consumer 3D printing, for example, would never have matured if it weren’t for the dedicated community of open-source developers, like Josef Prusa. Conferences can help bring us together in the pursuit of such goals and Central Europe’s biggest event, FAB25 Czechia, is just around the corner.

Czechia

FAB25 Czechia is unique among maker events, as it is more than just a technical conference — though that is certainly a major component. It is also a community-driven networking event and a cultural experience. FAB25 Czechia will take place between July 4th and July 11th, 2025, in the Czech Republic’s beautiful cities of Brno and Prague.

Travel between the two cities will be on the “Maker Train,” which will offer quite the adventure in its own right. Along its two-and-a-half-hour journey, the train will become an event space and host presentations for passengers to enjoy. That will include a workshop on the Nordic Thingy:91 X, led by the winner of the Maker Train Experience Challenge being conducted by Hackster and Nordic Semiconductor right now.

The emphasis on cultural exchange has always been an element of FABx conferences. Prevents events were held in countries like Bhutan, Egypt, and Chile. But this is the first time the annual conference will take place in Central Europe.

The Maker Train

The festivities will kick off on July 4th in Brno, where attendees will get to spend four days watching presentations, networking, and enjoying Czech culture. On the fifth day, July 8th, everyone will hop aboard the Maker Train for the 185km (about 115 mile) rail ride to Prague. There, the conference will continue until July 11th.

The Maker Train Experience Challenge, which we launched back in December, will come to fruition on that ride. With sponsorship from Nordic Semiconductor, we partnered with FAB25 Czechia organizers to challenge our Hackster PRO members to devise the ultimate workshop on the Nordic Thingy:91 X.

That is the newest prototyping platform in the popular Nordic Thingy family and it is especially useful for cellular IoT (Internet of Things) applications. We asked our Hackster PRO members to propose workshops and the best of the bunch will occur live on the Maker Train.

Prusa Day and the Prusa Factory

Once in Prague, July 10th will be a particularly exciting day for 3D printing enthusiasts, as it is “Prusa Day.” Prusa is, without doubt, the most respected name in the open-source 3D printing space and the Prusa Factory is in Prague. On Prusa Day, FAB25 Czechia attendees will get to visit the Prusa Factory and take an exclusive tour. That will include a look at the legendary Prusa print farm used for the production of parts for Prusa 3D printers.

Speakers

Josef Prusa himself will also be speaking at FAB25 Czechia, as will several other titans of the maker community. You might, for example, recognize Massimo Banzi, who co-founded Arduino 20 years ago. YouTube fans may know Scotty Allen, of the Strange Parts YouTube channel. And readers of Make: magazine, along with Maker Faire attendees, will be familiar with the President of Make Community, Dale Dougherty.

Those are just a few of the many speakers scheduled to headline FAB25 Czechia and there are still more to be announced. In fact, the organizers are still accepting applications if you have the ability to give a presentation, lead a workshop, or bring a Mobile FabLab. But the cut-off date is March 31st, so you need to act quickly.

Tickets

Even if you just want to attend the conference, you may want to move fast. Ticket prices will go up after March 31st, so you can save some money by committing before then. Standard tickets are 599€ now, but will go up to 699€ after that. Then, after May 31st, last minute ticket prices will go up to 849€.

At any time, residents of the Czech Republic or a valid Eastern European country can save 100€ on their tickets. That is part of an effort to “Bridge the Gap” and encourage participation from regions that tend to be underrepresented at these events. Other than the price, those tickets are exactly the same as the standard tickets.

There are also special tickets available for children and you can learn more about those on the FAB25 website.

Experiences

In addition to touring the stunning and historic cities of Brno and Prague, listening to world-renowned speakers, and riding the Maker Train, FAB25 Czechia attendees will get access to a plethora of learning and enrichment experiences.

The FAB25 Czechia main page provides an overview of events, including a daily schedule. And the venues page describes event locations in both Brno and Prague, which include everything from theatres to castles to rooftop patios.

Whether you’re there for the culture, the opportunity to learn, the community and networking possibilities, or a little bit of everything, FAB25 Czechia is sure to be the highlight of your summer.
