Arduino Cloud Gets UNO R4 WiFi Support, Complete with Amazon Alexa Integration
Add the Arduino UNO R4 WiFi to your Arduino Cloud account now, the Arduino Team promotes, to unlock its true capabilities.
Fresh from the launch of the Arduino UNO R4, the Arduino team has announced another string to the WiFi-suffixed variant's bow: support for the new board in the Arduino Cloud platform.
"Building upon the recent release of the much-anticipated UNO R4 in our store, this new integration significantly amplifies the capabilities of the Arduino Cloud," the Arduino team claims in its announcement. "With the Arduino Cloud, connecting your UNO R4 WiFi board becomes a breeze. Our user-friendly interface and intuitive workflows ensure a smooth setup process."
The Arduino UNO R4 launched late last month as a two-part refresh for the ever-popular Arduino UNO family of microcontroller development boards — though "refresh" hardly covers it, as it took the board from an eight-bit microcontroller to a far more powerful 32-bit model with considerably more resources. The top-end model, the Arduino UNO R4 WiFi, also features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, along with others features missing from the cheaper Minima version including a 12×8 LED matrix and a STEMMA QT/Qwiic connector.
It's the Wi-Fi connectivity that Arduino's latest announcement features, giving the Arduino UNO R4 WiFi the ability to work with the Arduino Cloud platform — including a cloud-specific firmware variant, support for developing in the web editor, data transmission, dashboard creation, and integration with Amazon's Alexa platform.
Those who already have an Arduino UNO R4 WiFi can get started with the Arduino Cloud by connecting the device to their PC, going to the Devices section of the platform and using the Add Device option, then following the wizard through installation of the Arduino Cloud-enabled firmware and on-boarding into the logged-in Arduino Cloud account.
