Like physical keys, passwords for websites and online services are a necessary evil of our modern world. Most of the time things happen smoothly — a code is automatically entered by your web browser, or perhaps you have to type it in on a physical keyboard.

In the case of hacker Alejandro Kruchowski, his LG smart TV made him enter his email and password ever few days in order log in to Netflix using the arrow keys on his remote.

Obviously, this was not an ideal situation, and to get around this first world problem, Kruchowski recorded the necessary remote control signals with an IR receiver module and an Arduino Pro Mini, then programmed the board to play back the needed sequence using an IR LED.

With this type of scheme, the correct starting point will need to be selected for accurate input, and while input still takes a few seconds, at least he doesn’t have to program in the characters by hand. You can check out the device in action below, and see how he made it here.
