Although a car’s dashboard tells you what you need to know to drive from one place to another, they’re generally not that customizable. Fortunately though, modern vehicles come with a consult port that can electronically tell you pertinent data about your ride. This is extremely useful for professional diagnostics or even to power a custom display.
Greg Mathews decided to make his own digital display for his older Nissan using a touchscreen and a Raspberry Pi. Code is available on the project’s GitHub page.
As of now, it shows miles per hour, coolant temperature, and RPM, but could be expanded as necessary. It could, in theory, even read diagnostic codes if there is a problem with the car.
