We love seeing what the cyberdeck community comes up and part of the charm is the DIY quality of the projects. But sometimes a project comes along that looks so professional it takes your breath away. That is certainly the case with Consolo, which is a modular cyberdeck with stunning good looks.

Jemsipx first posted about this project about a month ago and it garnered quite a bit of attention then. Now he’s back with an update that includes a keyboard module, a new name, and plans to make this cyberdeck available to others. The name, Consolo, feels appropriate, as the design seems at least somewhat inspired by the ClockworkPi uConsole. Both devices can function as terminals, so the names are sensible.

But the real draw is the awesome enclosure design, which has a fantastic style and enables some neat modular functionality. The main unit contains a Raspberry Pi 5, a generous 7” LCD touchscreen, and a positively extravagant 16,000mAh battery pack (made with two 8,000mAh lithium batteries). The enclosure has a clean, tidy appearance with just enough flair to make it exciting. That’s especially true when you notice the expansion slot on the bottom, where users can attach add-on modules.

Jemsipx has plans for many different modules, but the first prototype is a keyboard module. That contains a mini Bluetooth keyboard with rubber buttons, a touchpad, a rotary encoder wheel, and a tiny trackball. And, of course, it perfectly matches the design of the main unit.

Potential future modules include an AI module and an NVMe SSD module. Jemsipx hasn’t stated how the modules communicate with the main unit and so we can’t speculate much about what modules might be possible, but you can likely imagine a lot of fun options.

If Consolo has you intrigued, then there is good news: Jemsipx teamed up with a friend to create soulscircuit.com and make Consolo available to the masses. It isn’t yet clear if they plan to sell assembled devices or kits, but it appears that they’ll be giving us all some way to get our mitts on our own Consolo devices — though that may end up being documentation to help people build devices themselves.

You can sign up for updates on the soulscircuit.com website if you want to be the first to know about new developments.
