CSA Partners with Apple, Google, Samsung to Make Matter Certification Good for "Works With" Badges
If your gadgets have been tested at the CSA's Interop Lab, then you'll be able to use the results for "Works With" certification.
The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), the organization behind the Matter smart home interoperability standard, has announced that its certification will now be accepted by Apple, and soon by Google and Samsung, for their respective "Works With" programs — making it easier to launch Matter-based smart home products with broad compatibility.
"A key part of many Matter device makers' go-to-market journey is earning major smart home ecosystems' 'Works With' certification and badges," the CSA explains. "These programs often require device makers to complete the Alliance's certification process, and then participate in an entirely separate testing process for each 'Works With' ecosystem."
That duplication of effort — which can extend to a quadruplication or more, depending on how many "Works With" badges you'd like to collect — is what the CSA aims to address with new partnerships. From today, the organization says, Apple will accept test results from the CSA's Interop Lab for its Works With Apple Home program — and both Google and Samsung are set to follow suit for their respective Works With Google Home and Works With SmartThings programs later in the year.
The new comes just a couple of months after the CSA announced Matter 1.4, a new revision of the standard that added a more robust router and access point infrastructure, improved multi-admin support, and expanded energy management features, plus support for solar power devices, battery energy storage systems, heat pumps, and other smart home infrastructure systems.
