Eyelights is looking to fund production of an augmented reality system for motorcyclists and other helmet-wearers: the EyeRide Heads-Up Display (HUD)

"Created by ex-BMW & Airbus optics and photonics PhD engineers. EyeRide is a patented all-in-one device that combines head-up display, GPS, hands-free kit and voice command to keep your eyes on the road," Eyelights claims of its latest design. "EyeRide displays Google Maps and Plans in your line of sight. It is bright, it is transparent, so you can focus on riding curves. Our 55mm 99dB flat speakers and directional microphone ensure a powerful sound experience and connectivity with other riders. Spotify & Youtube music are available in order to keep your best vibes."

The display portion of the EyeRide system, which the company says has already passed certification for sale in the US, Canada, and Europe, is driven by a Sony OLED panel; according to the team, it provides a virtual display at a perceived distance of around two metres (around 6.5 feet) from the wearer. A battery, charged in around two hours via USB Type-C, is said to offer a full day's operation, while a microphone includes directional noise cancellation — key to its operation in a helmet worn by someone on a moving vehicle.

The EyeRide HUD is Eyelights' third product, and second crowdfunding campaign, since its formation in 2016, after having successfully delivered an initial motorcycle HUD followed by an variant designed for cars. The company claims to have incorporated all the feedback from its previous users' into the new design.

"We've learned a lot about prototyping and industrialisation," Eyelights explains. "When we launched our first motorcycle head-up display, we were 3... Since we've hired 18 talented people to help us create a better product and improve our manufacturing process. We've already completed the prototyping stage for EyeRide and also launched production. We've decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign to get more customers feedback and have a big launch for our V2 product."

The campaign is now live on Kickstarter, with pricing starting at €299 (around $330) for early bird backers and delivery estimated by July this year.
