FractalOne’s Geo Brings Wireless to Corded Keyboards

The Geo device adds a wireless connection option for wired keyboards via a USB Type-C port.

Keyboards have become ubiquitous in our lives. We use them for texting friends, education, typing emails, programming, playing video games, and more. Most people who use them extensively for work and play have bought a keyboard that caters to their needs, such as a full-sized TKL (Ten Keyless) or a 60/65%. Some prefer a more custom board with interchangeable switches and keycaps to better suit their preferences. These boards can be strictly wired (via USB), which presents a problem for those who love the board but occasionally need a wireless option.

This is where FractalOne’s Geo adapter comes into play, as it allows users to turn any wired keyboard into a wireless version without modification. “The goal of Geo is to provide custom keyboard users and builders with an easy way to add a wireless connection to their keyboards. With Geo, it could never be easier — just plug in and play, connecting with any keyboard,” FractalOne writes. “Geo was created with universal compatibility in mind so that it is not only usable, due to its high denominator design and supplementation with adapters, but looks pleasing to the eye and always sits flush with your keyboard.”

The Geo features an aluminum and ABS enclosure, and a hot-swap USB Type-C connector that can be switched out with different length adapters. The enclosure can also be oriented left or right to match the end of the keyboard’s USB port location, so it doesn’t overextend past the board. Wireless is provided by Bluetooth 5.1 and is rated for seven days of use before needing to be recharged. What’s more, it’s compatible with Windows and macOS and is VIA and QMK ready.

FractalOne is currently crowdfunding the Geo on Kickstarter with pledges starting at about $102, which gets you the adapter (available in three colors), charging cable, USB extender, manual and a 1-year warranty.
