In order to make robotics more accessible to the masses, Vincross has developed a six-legged robot called HEXA, along with the MIND operating system based on the Linux kernel. As seen in the videos below, and on its now-active Kickstarter campaign, the hexapod is highly maneuverable, and can be programmed using a Golang-powered SDK or a sandbox-style 3D simulator.

Meet HEXA the hexapod.

If you’d like to “drive it around,” HEXA can be remotely-operated using a phone app, as well as its onboard camera for robot-view experience. In addition to a 720p camera with night vision, the hexapod features a 3-axis accelerometer, infrared transmitter, and a distance sensor.

For brains, HEXA is equipped with an ARM Cortex-A9 processor, along with multiple co-processors to give its “Human Mentors” lots of computing bandwidth.

HEXA’s optical and spatial sensors allow it to watch and learn from its surroundings.

Not only does Vincross’ intuitive MIND SDK seamless integrate third-party libraries like ROS and OpenCV, but developers can also create their own Skills and movements with just a few lines of code. They can then share these Skills in an online app store.

For more details on the sensor-rich, six-legged robot and its ecosystem, check out the Vincross team’s Kickstarter campaign.
