One of the most popular RetroPie setups is a Raspberry Pi crammed inside of a vintage Game Boy, and sometimes other handheld consoles. Sudomod forum user Kite is well known for designing and selling boards that help facilitate those kinds of builds. His other boards, like the Super All in One, were incredibly popular, and now he’s got a new board called the Circuit Sword that looks even better.

The Circuit Sword combines most of the circuits you’d need to make a RetroPie Game Boy, including: power and charging circuity, peripheral connections, and a place for a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3. The Compute Module is essentially a Raspberry Pi with all of the various connectors and ports removed, which makes it very slim. That fits into a slot on the Circuit Sword board that has the necessary ports placed in more useful locations.

It’s important to note that the Circuit Sword is intended for experienced modders, and you’ll almost certainly need to trim your Game Boy case to use it. Here’s a build from Sudomod user DarrylUK that does a good job of illustrating the basic installation process. If you want a Circuit Sword you’ll need to wait for the next run of preorders, and you can find more information on that here.
