KT R1 Portable Gaming Console with AmLogic S922X SoC and 4GB RAM
This portable yet powerful gaming console comes with a 4:3 aspect ratio display, a 5000mAh battery, and a $200 price tag.
We know that most retro gaming fans want a 4:3 aspect ratio display, but Hardkernel could not provide one even in their latest ORDROID-GO Advance model, which came with an Arm Cortex-A35 and a 5" display. However, the KT R1 handheld device will feature a 4" 800×600 touchscreen display with a 4:3 aspect ratio to give a full-screen visual experience.
This console is built around the AmLogic S922X SoC that was released last year, sporting a quad-core Arm Cortex-A73 and a dual-core Cortex-A53 along with each core clocked up to 1.8GHz. The machine is equipped with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and the graphics are powered by the popular Mali-G52 GPU.
The KT R1 will come with a microSD card placed on the motherboard along with the one available externally to the user, while the internal storage "is taken care of via an EMMC of varying sizes." Additionally, it has a headphone jack, USB-C port, and Mini HDMI output, and the device uses 25W of fast charging. The is powered 5000mAh battery, which is more than the ORDOID-Go Super.
The KT R1 will run on the famous Android 9 out of the box, which makes it more configurable to Android apps available. However, the console will also support different operating systems with the secondary OS that can be installed on the external microSD card.
The product is expected to go live on IndieGoGo in Q1 of 2021 followed by shipping. The device is expected to be priced at around $200 for the highest model. Note that the pricing is yet to be finalized.
The KT R1 might be a little more expensive than the ORDOID-Go Super, but it boasts extra RAM, battery, and better screen resolution. If you are looking for a portable and powerful handheld device, this might be the one.
