LEGO is as popular as it is for a reason: the bricks make it fun and easy for people of all ages to build whatever they can imagine. Leguino, which is now on Kickstarter, aims to extend that accessibility to robotics and electronics projects with a series of high-tech bricks. Each Leguino brick uses the same locking design as the LEGO we’re all familiar with, so they’re fully compatible with the toy sets you already own.

There are Leguino bricks for many of the components makers are currently using. For example, there are four options just for the brain of your robot: an Arduino Uno, an Arduino Nano, a Raspberry Pi Zero W, and an ESP32. Displays include a 16x2 character monochrome LCD and a 128x64 pixel monochrome OLED. There are a variety of sensor bricks, like an ultrasonic distance sensor and a climate sensor, as well as motor and servo bricks for movement—basically everything you’d need to build a robot.

The entire Leguino system is designed to be kid-friendly and easy to use. It’s fully compatible with the Visuino development environment, so even young children can program their creations in an understandable, visual way. It’s also fairly affordable: a RC car kit, for example, is £69 (about $98) — and that even includes the FlySky RC receiver. The Kickstarter campaign runs until April 16th, and orders should ship by October.
